You only know the ones you grew up with

You stay up all night because the sound of cicadas
You go lightning bug catching so they can light up your room while you sleep
You hear tree frogs croak with every breath you take

You stay up all night in your tent your dad put up in the backyard

You go swimming all year round
Even if you have to drag your mom to take you to the YMCA
Or you knock on your neighbors door til they let you go swimming in their pool
Just cause their pool has a diving board

Where I come from you can’t wait til your eleven
So that you can finally walk to the park by yourself

Begging your parents everyday for two dollars for when you hear the icecream truck
You always get the same spongebob popsicle everyday

You always know exactly what time the street lights come on
