Editorial: Is All of Business Day’s Set of Rules Important?
Business day is an event where students stimulate activities of economy (buying and selling), this event will be held at High Scope’s building on 25th of May 2016. The author is going to talk about why High Scope’s given rules & regulations and aims to clear all of the students’ questions so there won’t be any problems on the event.
On this event, students from Kindergarten up until Middle School will be participating in the event where they will sell their products to visitors and parents, but for that much quantity of students, it will surely be hard to handle if they don’t understand and remember the rules well enough, that is why it is important to explain why the given rules & regulations are made and given.
The first rule is the forbidden use of plastic; this rule is made mainly because it will teach students to reduce the use of plastic in our daily life so they could apply the habit in the future. The second rule is offensive business names; this rule is made so that no one will feel offended and disrespected. For example, if a business name offends your religion or your race, you would feel offended and full of protest, which is why the rule is important. The third rule is that you are required to bring your own trash bins; this rule is made to keep the environment clean.
The fourth rule is consignment (products not made by students) are not allowed; personally, the rule is really important in the author’s opinion because so that students can be able to make their own things, with their own ideas. The fifth rule is hawking; not that is forbidden, but hawking is only allowed the last 15 minutes of the event so that the whole event runs smoothly and the event will be at peace. The seventh rule is tax payments; this rule is made so that students will properly learn how to do business in the future properly. The eighth is advertisement and space rentals payments; so students will realize that doing business does not only mean that you will only pay for factors of production but also things you do other than that like advertising your business and space rentals or payments. The last rule is a maximum of Rp. 500.000 for investment; this rule is important so that students won’t have a hard time on returning money to investors.
Despite the reasonable rules, there is one rule that the author disagrees with; it states that that all groups and classes should have a designated dress code or uniform. The author thinks that most students will be bothered by the fact that they will be wearing the same thing with others and basically their business expresses almost 100% of their personality or their interests since its based on their own ideas and interests, so they should be allowed to wear anything they want or like to wear.
For the governors/ rule conductors, they should consider and appreciate others’ thoughts and opinions on the rules. For students, they should follow the rules; as it is and see if the event runs smoothly as expected. As Marcus Aurelius says, “Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
