Do you know the dangers of texting while driving? Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at only 55mph there is enough time to travel the length of a football field, blindfolded. More than 3,000 teens alone die each year due to cell phone distractions. Text messaging makes a crash 23 times more likley to happen. 15% of teens say that they text and drive because they see their parents doing it and nothing bad happens.
During those short five seconds there are numerous things that could happen. For instance, you're driving to work and your cell phone notifies you there is a message to be read. You pick up your phone and reply immediately. What you didn't keep in mind was the price you or someone else could pay for your mistake.
Bang!!! You crash. Your thinking "What happened?" "I just looked away for a second." your head is pounding and your confused, the world is spinning. Once you calm down and come to your senses you look out the shattered windshield. There you find yourself in the opposing lane of traffic at a complete stop. Between all of the commotion you see a young girl on the hood of what used to be her car. You then black out.
Later you wake up in the hospital. The doctor comes in and tells you that you have suffered a minor concusion and a bruised shoulder. The doctors eyes full of dissapointment and agony turns and leaves with nothing else said. Your wrist is handcuffed to the hospital bed. Moments later an agent walks into the lonely room and says " You have been charged with man slaughter and faceing time in jail or federal prison. This morning at around 8 A.M you were driving yourself to work while you were texting. At the same time a 15 year old girl was driving herself to school days after she was presented with a hardship license. In her excitement and unexperienced driving she forgot to put on her seat belt. Sadly, while you were texting you collided into the opposing lane of traffic causeing a head on collision. The victom was prenounced dead at the scene."
You seem to be paralyzed all over and can't speak. You have killed someone's little girl, someones baby girl will never get to graduate, get married, make something of herself all because you had to reply to one text message. You are facing time in jail or maybe federal prison. What about your own family? Your going to miss your only sons graduation, marriage, and many other non-replaceable memories all because of one text message. Your going to miss so many things all because of one simple text message. Your stomach tightens and you feel sick...worst of all you've killed someone
Dont put you or someone elses family in this situation. Stop texting and driving.
