Nearly Gone
I was in the fourth grade at the time; I just came home from school. I heard my mom and dad having a big argument about something. They were yelling and screaming. My dad said that he was going to leave the house. I walked quickly past them. Mom noticed me and started to yell at me. I was confused so I yelled back at her. Mom started to blame me for the argument that they were having. Soon, we were all in a huge argument. After about five minutes of yelling I told them I was going to leave the house. Dad responded by yelling at me and saying I don’t care get out of my house, I know he didn’t mean it. I walked out of the door with my school uniform and backpack on me. I sat near the garage and thought about everything that just happened. My day got even worse when it started raining. I could still hear them arguing inside the house. Without thinking I went to my friend’s house. His name was Matthew.
On the way I was soaking wet from the rain. When I arrived Matthew asked me what I was doing here. “Let me in and I’ll tell you why I’m here.” I said. When I came inside his house I sat on the couch and he sat on it too. I explained to him why I was here. Matthew understood and told me that I could stay as long as I want. But at that moment his dad came into the room. “What are you doing here?” he asked politely. I told him the same thing I told to Matthew. “You need to go back to your house, I’ll give you a ride if you’d like.” He responded. I rejected his offer and said I was going to walk home, I was lying to him.
When I got outside I decided to head to the park which was very far from here. Midway there a four doored truck pulled up next to me. The door opened and I could see Matthew’s dad, Betty my sister, and David my brother. Matthew’s dad told me to get in, so I got in. “You shouldn’t be out here alone, it’s a dangerous place to be here by yourself.” He said. I knew he was right. When we got to my house, I slowly walked in. Danny, my oldest brother told me that everybody (friends, family) went looking for me because I didn’t come home like I was supposed to. I ignored him and went to the couch to sit down. David suggested that I go apologize to my Mom and Dad. Although I felt as if it wasn’t my fault I decided to go apologize anyways.
I went to find my dad who was in the closet packing clothes up. I told him I was sorry and I left to go find my mom who was in her bedroom. I said I was sorry but she didn’t really care. I then went to go take a shower. While taking a shower I thought of what could’ve happened when I left home. I thought for a while that it started to get foggy inside the restroom. When I was finished I went straight to my bedroom and listened to music. I lay down on my bed wondering about lots of things. I had so much doubt and pressure on me to the point where I’d probably wanted to take the easier way out of life. I hoped that tomorrow will be a normal day just like every other day. Soon David came inside my room and explained to me what happened while I was gone. He told me that mom and dad were talking about getting a divorce and they’ve gone silent since everybody went to go search for me. He also told me that dad was planning to leave. I got up and went to the closet where my dad was. I asked him if he was going to leave. He responded by saying no and he was just cleaning the closet because it was messy.
I was lucky that I was able to live a happy life after this day. One thing I found strange is that this all happened on Friday the 13th.
