Stores spying on you?Heck no!
Picture this:You’re in your favorite shopping market, and you’re thinking about buying that Optimus Prime figure you were drooling over a few weeks ago. What you don’t know is while you’re gazing at the product, admiring the beautiful paintjob and body design, there are about a dozen cameras hidden, watching your every move.
Stores all over the nation have been spying on its customers via. cameras that are hidden in those little holes in the shelving, and even creepier, mannequins! The eyes have little cameras that detect your age, gender, race, and facial expressions.Who knows how many other places these cameras are?
Now you’re probably thinking “why would they do that?”.If you guessed money, then give yourself a pat on the back.
The stores think that using cameras hidden all over the building to stalk people in an effort to gain more money is alright, but the customers feel the opposite. The majority of people people don’t want want security guards stalking them through cameras to see what they buy. It’s creepy!
These earlier mentioned cameras not only focus on you,but also on what you buy. They see what you like, what you don’t,etc. The store then gives you an e-coupon in hopes you spend more. You’re probably wondering how they send said coupons.Well, here’s the info that’s gotten many ticked off. They track your phone! The second you walk in,your phone becomes a tracking device.
Some people think that tracking your phone is an innocent way to get the person’s info to help give them a better shopping experience, but it’s a lot more dangerous than they give it credit for.Once the stores have collected your personal information (Phone no.,address,Pin no.,etc) they could easily distribute this information.
Now,some may argue that the cameras and the tracking help spot thieves and help people get a better shopping experience. While this is true, this is all done without the person’s knowledge and/or permission,so it feels more like spying.
Seventy percent of consumers agreed that stores spying on them was unacceptable, they were not happy about being spied on.I have a way to resolve this;the stores could either:stop going overboard about this spying fiasco,or at least give everyone a heads-up.
This has been my insight to this shopping situation.Whether you agree with my opinions or not,you should at least be aware of this event.Knowing this, you’ll probably be more cautious about buying that Optimus Prime, huh?
