Is there a game that you really enjoy? A game that I enjoy is the game of Risk. Many of us play this game. However, most of us don’t know how it was started. So, how was Risk invented?

For those reading this that don’t know what Risk is let us go over some basic rules. There are two or more players to this game. This game has many different versions, though the version I know best uses cubes. The board is a map of the world, and the objective of this game is to take over the “world” meaning the board. This is done using armies which in the version we are talking about, is represented by cubes (1 army) and triangular prisms (10 armies). You gain armies depending on the countries you have. The battles between armies are simulated by rolling a dice where the larger number wins, and when it is a tie the defending army wins. The number of dice you roll depends on the number of armies in your attacking or attacked country. This goes on until only one person has armies and wins the game.

Now that you have read some background on what Risk is, how did someone come up with this unique game? Risk was first made in the 1950’s. The inventor of this game was a French man named Albert Lamorisse. When it was first made, Risk was actually called La Conquete du Monde, or Conquest of the World. Lamorisse took his new game to a French game manufacturer called Miro. Miro marketed the game, but changed some rules to make it simpler and easier to play. Soon after, The Parker Brothers, a U.S. game manufacturer made a relationship with Miro, which caused the game to come to the U.S., where some rules were changed again and it got the name Risk. This version is the one from the previous paragraph. Risk stayed the same for a while, but eventually rules started to change yet again over time. This led to today, where there are many different versions and styles to play.

The game of Risk has a long and extensive history, and it is enjoyed by many people around the world. Because of its many stages of change, there are now plenty of versions and ways to play to choose from. As you can see, Risk is not just a largely enjoyed board game, but one with a history as well.
