Hi my name is Jenifer but people call me Jen. This is something that happened a little while back, it all started that Monday morning, it was a beautiful day, the birds chirping the wind blowing I thought it was going to be perfect, right? Wrong, it was the exact opposite. The only things that made me smile were my best friends Alex and Sophie. It was just another morning to me I woke up, got ready for school and waited for Alex and Sophie outside of their house, they’re cousins. Sophie’s mom passed away and she moved in with her Aunt Alex’s mother.

“Hey Jen,” Alex yelled. I chuckled to myself, that girl is something else.
“You’re crazy. Anyways where’s Sophie?”
“Right here,” Sophie said, she coming out of nowhere.
“Ok, now that Mrs. Peek-a-boo is here, can we please get to that crap house called school?” I groaned.
They laughed at me I expected them to, they always laugh even when things are bad. That’s why I love them.
“Is it just me or does Jen not want to go to school? Oh my gosh the world is ending Jen doesn’t want to go to school! THE Jen doesn’t want to go to school,” Alex chuckled.
“It’s not that I don’t want to go to school, trust me I do, it’s just that I’m getting bad vibes.
“How can you get bad vibes on such a beautiful day?” Sophie asked.
“I know right, the birds are chirping it’s not too hot not too cold the day is perfect.” Alex added.
“I don’t know guys, it’s just I’m getting this feeling that I really can’t explain. Just do me a favor and watch you backs, ok?” I wasn’t sure what I felt but the thought of it makes my stomach churn.
“Fine,” They said in unison with a smile on their faces.
We arrived at school right on time but the weird thing is I wasn’t the only one that felt the bad vibe, as soon as we walked in to the building it was abnormally quiet and trust me if you know Charlotte Academy like I do, it’s never quite, like, ever. There were a couple whispers but most people were just staring off into space just thinking. I found that peculiar because we, teens never ever think, well most of the time we do. But that’s not the point.
“Okay, NOW I see what you meant by bad vibes Jen, this is creepy weird,” Alex said.
“I know, this is super awkward,” Sophie stated.
“You know what I’m talking about now,” I said.
The bell for first hour rung and we all went to math together.
Just then, the lady came on the intercom.
“Code red, code red!” She screamed.
I could tell by the way she screamed that was no drill; there was a gun man on campus. I was scared out of my mind; I looked over at Alex and Sophie, they had a terror written all over their faces and they weren’t the only ones.
“Now I see why you’ve been getting bad vibes this morning,” Alex whispered.
“I know, creepy, huh?” I was beyond shaken.
Sophie just sat there, quiet. She didn’t even talk or look up; she just sat there, staring blankly into space while everyone else is panicking going crazy.
Just then, we heard a loud boom and screaming!
Everyone ducked down, now I was really scared.
“Everyone to the hide out now!” Our teacher yelled. Bad idea, because as soon as he yelled we heard footsteps rushingtowards the door.
Everyone ran to the closet hideout, trampling Alex and I along the way. Sophie stayed behind like a good friend. As my eyes wandered the room in fear, I heard a loud slamming sound it was the door being kicked open; not a good sound to hear when there is a gun man in the building. We tried running to the hideout but our teacher already locked the door he looked at us with eyes of sorrow. I can tell he didn’t mean it, the vibrations from the door being kicked down shut the hideout door. I was shaking, literally.
“You three come with me.” The masked man yelled.
I was trembling by now. We slowly dragged our feet towards the man, locking our hands into one another’s; these girls are like my sisters I can’t imagine losing neither of them. A tear rolled down my cheek.
“Hurry up we don’t have all day!” He yelled.
We scurried over to where he was. He pushes us towards the door with his free hand making us walk in front of him. I heard alex quietly sobbing sophie had a blank face I can tell she was thinking but the good thinking, like she was hatching up a plan this is why she’s the brains of the group.
“Turn here,” He instructed.
We turned into a semi-large closet; he made us sit in the corner I knew what was coming next.
“No talking at all!” He yelled.
I gulped even if I wanted to talk, I don’t think I would, my throat was dry I was sweating but I wasn’t hot at all.
“I’m scared.” Sophie whispered.
I nodded in agreement Alex was just crying quietly.
“I have a plan,” Sophie whispered.
I shook my head no because this dude looked like a psycho path and I know I say this a lot but I’m scared.
“I love you all, thank you for being there when no one was there for me, an Alex,” Alex looked up. “Tell Aunt Alice I said thank you for taking care of me all of these years.” Sophie said, tears streaming down her face.
“Sophie what are you doing?” Alex whispered concerned.
The gun man was turned around. Out of nowhere Sophie tackled him.
“Run!” she yelled.
We looked at her with worried faces, she looked back with a reassuring face; I looked back and saw them wrestling the gun mans mask came off and I was surprised to see who it was, I was-BOOM is all I heard I looked on the floor to see a bleeding lifeless Sophie. Alex and I ran outside to see the school surrounded by officers. We fell to our knees weeping as the police men went inside to get the gunman he came out. Alex gasped at who it was, it was her brother Aaron, and she started crying even more. One question is why? Why would he do this? That’s when the paramedics came out with body bags, in one was Sophie our best friend since birth, I didn’t know how to respond to that I just broke down.
“She’s gone.” Alex cried.
Our best friend, gone.
Ever since that day my life hasn’t been the same for us. We are one person short. As for Aaron, he’s sentenced to death. But we’ll always have that one piece missing from us, but I know she’s in our hearts.
