Over dependance on computers.
The explosion of computer technology over the past 25 years has really had a huge impact on our lives. In many ways, computers have enhanced our lives but in many ways, they can make our lives worse. Computers virtually impact every aspect of our lives these days. I believe society has become too dependent on computers. What would happen if the computers we use to do our banking, get electricity, communicate with each other, and weapons broke?
Banking online is a fairly new thing that we have in this country. It has helped us by allowing us to pay off loans and manage our banking accounts from home but, if something went wrong we would be at a loss. If something went wrong with a computer all of our money records would potentially be lost. Also, we can be hacked. Hackers are very smart people who can find ways into our accounts and transfer our money into their pocket. Finally, there is identity theft. With the computer all a person needs is a password and a username to log into your account. It's no longer face to face with a banker who can look at your credit card picture to tell if you are a fake. There are multiple securities that try and help with identity theft, but they are not perfect.
All of our electricity plants run solely by computers. The computers control every aspect of the power plant. If even 1 computer broke, then whole process would be shut down and everyone in the area would lose power.
Between cell phones, face book, twitter, e-mail, and Skype people are forgetting how to communicate with each other normally. When one messaging system goes down we lose contact with our friends and have no other idea how to contact them. With all these social messaging devices we do not experience as much face to face time with friends and can even grow apart. If all these messaging systems were to go away then we would lose contact with all our friends and lose touch with the world.
With all our technology today one very important and very dangerous invention is the computer controlled missile and drone. Missiles are bombs that explode on contact where they hit and drones are military gunships that that are computer controlled. If our enemy were to hack and gain access to these computer controlled weapons we would be in great danger.
Even thought computers are such a helpful invention, they are not perfect and I believe that we put too much faith in them to help us through life.
