Are you a bookworm? Would rather spend your days just curled up reading a book? Wouldn’t you love to have that as your job and be able to share the joy of it with other people? Well then have I got the job for you! You should own bookstore. How you ask? Simple, I will go through it step by step with you and by the end of this article you will be pro on the topic of owning a bookstore.

To own a bookstore you must be prepared mentally, financially and physically.

First we will discuss how to prepare yourself mentally. Owning your own business can be mentally exhausting in many ways. You have to prepared incase anything goes wrong so that you don’t have a mental breakdown and such. You must also be prepared to deal with customers and we all know that some of them can be crazy and mean. So you must be able to handle anything that comes your way.

Second we will discuss how to prepare yourself financially. This is a big one so pay close attention. Opening your own business won’t be cheap and you can never predict what will happen in the future, whether your bookstore will sink or float. I would suggest start saving money now! You can never be too prepared.

You will need money for everything when it comes to opening a bookstore, you will need it to hire employees, to purchase furniture, a building, to order the books you are going to sell and so much more. So you must have enough put away to be able to pay for all this. Yes, there is the income your store will make but like I said before we don’t know how much business you will get. So start saving now!

Third I am going to talk about preparing yourself physically and I don’t mean you have to go to the gym and get a six-pack. I mean more in the building and furniture department. You cannot open a bookstore without a location and a building, so once you have that you must furnish it, fill it with shelves, couches, chairs, desks whatever you imagine your store to look like and we can’t forget books! You must have books ready to sell. I mean how would you like to go into a bookstore and there are no books, or very few to choose from? If that doesn’t destroy your business I don’t know what will!

Another thing I would strongly advise is to get your business insured. So many things could happen from natural disasters to robbery. And I seriously doubt you want to pay for the damage done from money out of your own pocket but if you would rather do that then that takes us back to the be financially prepared step.

Another thing that you must have is a business license! I cannot stress this enough! If you do not have this you could and most likely will get shut down! And after all your hard work you do not want that.

There are many ways to obtain a business license, but it could be different in different areas, so you just want to figure what the ways and rules to getting one in your area.

Lastly, and I find this very important. You must think of a name! A catchy, clever, intriguing name. If you have a catchy name, it will get out there more and that is what you want. You want people to hear your name and be like “Oh, I wanna go there!” So put some time and effort into thinking of your name and you may also want to check and make sure that name is not already being used.

I hope this helped you know how to accomplish your goal of opening a bookstore! Thank you!
