Are iPads Hurting Student?

The Roslyn High School has provided most of their students with iPads to help them academically. Dr. Daniel Brenner the Superintendent of the Roslyn School District said “It’s not about a cool application. We are talking about changing the way we do business in the classroom.” On December 20 2011, RHS gave out 47 iPads to teachers and students in humanities classes. They are working on providing iPads to all of their students. An iPad costs $750 and they are being used to replace textbooks and to help the school go paperless.
An important question to ask is, are the iPads helping or hurting the students? Using an iPad is a privilege not a necessity. There are teachers that are technologically savvy and that think iPads are great to use in class. They use applications to make using the iPad more interesting. For example they would tell the students to go to certain sites or download applications. There are some teachers that are not as technologically savvy and think that the iPads are distracting and are not helping the student but are hurting them. The program is a great program but if some teachers are not into working with the iPads then students cannot really have an opinion on them because they are not using them like Dr. Brenner would like.
