Anti-Assimilations

December 19, 2007
By Becky Jepson, Chapel Hill, NC

I came in setting all the wrong examples
People started looking up to me
They should have looked down
They changed everything they’d ever done
In their entire lives
Just to fit with what a stranger does
When she comes to town

I can’t understand why they want to be like me
I’ve spent half my time trying to be like them
But if they keep up the follow, I’ll keep up the walk
And lead them round this crazy loop again and again
