The piece is called “Truths of a Chicken Dinner” by Brooke Birkland. The piece describes issues about animal consumption and uses details to describe the horrors of the harvesting of animals.
I love the descriptions and the overall mood the author has created by using grotesque vocabulary words and point of view with the dead chicken and the happy family. It’s kind of funny that the family is all so happy , but the chicken is dead and died a gruesome life. So all of the descriptions are up to point and all, but I have some questions. If the whole world stopped consuming animals right now, where would all the remaining animals go? Also, you can’t make the whole world vegan, so how would you stop them from eating animals? And who was the family member that seen the horrors of the animal industry? Was the poem based on your life in any way?
