“Life Lessons from OCD” is a gorgeous article by “Erin” that talks about her experience with OCD. It explains her constant fears: fire drills, feeling unsure of whether a door was left unlocked, or fearing that a laundry basket left on a heating vent would catch fire and burn the house down. She explains how OCD seems like a hopeless disorder. Thankfully, at the end of the article, Erin explains treatments for OCD and how they helped her. This part, in particular, was incredibly heartwarming.

Not enough people understand what OCD really is – myself included. The term is often used interchangeably with perfectionism; a joke that someone’s OCD won’t let them draw anything but a perfectly straight ‘h’ is laughed at and forgotten. OCD is a serious disorder and this article opened my eyes to that.

I hope others will read this article and learn about OCD. Then maybe the jokes would stop and we would all understand that OCD is terribly real.
