Reading "Old World, Meet New" by Andrea was like looking into a mirror of my life. This amazing piece truly captures what it is like to have parents or relatives from a country other than America.

As a Jewish, Russian-speaking girl from Brooklyn, New York I am held up to the same strict standards as Andrea's parents hold her to. Whether it be dating or clothing, my immigrant parents are strict on their policies and their culture. Andrea writes "... I can't wrap my head around why they're so opposed to exceptions to 'tradition.'" And of course neither can I.

But even though I truly despise some (or even most) of  my parents' routines or traditions, I will always end up being influenced by the, even if I don't want to. Of course, it's inevitable. Just like Andrea, I try to make them look at the world from a different perspective, something captured so beautifully in this very relatable cultural piece.
