“The Year I Told You” is a truly beautiful piece of someone changing from a female to a male. The little changes that Will makes in order to act and look more like a boy gives the story character. Readers are able to sympathize him. From the little details of Will changing how he takes selfies and the large changes of him trying to hide his chest and hips makes the story unique and meaningful.
Will Selig, the author, is talking to his significant other when he writes this fascinating piece. He writes, “You introduced me as your boyfriend to your family.” He told his lover that he was a boy and his lover accepted his rolled-up pants and messy hair and puffed out chest. This shows how transgender people can be accepted and there is nothing to fear about coming out. Will Selig truly writes a magnificent piece on the hardships but the benefits of coming out to your most important people.
