I really liked Chris Mayer’s fictional piece, “The Dance Recital.” His use of descriptive language really helped me visualize exactly what the scene looked like. I liked how he established the significance of the tabs without telling the reader exactly how they were used. Chris did a great job explaining how this futuristic world worked, where people relied on strange tabs to feel emotions, without explicitly stating it. Through the character’s actions and phrases like, “Not that he cared about anything. Yet.” I especially loved how he wrote the narrator’s carelessness that leads to his demise, since he ends up using the tab that he was going to pay for the dance recital with. Overall, I really liked the concept that this piece revolves around, and thought that Chris did a great job executing it!
