“A Pound Does Not a Person Make” by Tristan Poindexter was a very well written piece that conveys to its readers how cruel people can be, especially when it comes to appearance. The author of the piece was tormented about her weight, and was often called “fat.” The memoir did a great job in making the readers feel what the author did.
As a teenager, I often see and hear people being made fun of for a variety of things, and am ashamed to say that I sometimes participate in the torment. I never realized that words could hurt someone as badly as they did the author. The piece inspired me to instead of joining the crowd and making people’s lives miserable, be kind to others just as I have been taught to by adults. “A Pound Does Not a Person Make” was truly amazing, and it deserved its place in the magazine.
