There is not enough room to type out long lines of a poem. When a single line is too long it is divided. This disrupts the flow of the poem and is not the way the poet wished it to be read. Often when a line is too long it will be continued with an indentation but even this is not possible here. The only way to know if it is supposed to be a continuation of a previous line is if the first letter is not capitalized. But what if the poet does not capitalize each line of their poem? This leads to even greater confusion.
