The testimony of Rachel W.'s being different but being treated equakl, is one that I wholeheartedly agree with. In second grade, I attended a predomintely African American school. Being a fair-skinned, Jew I stood out like a sore tumb. Although I was treated equal by fellow schoolmates, there could could be no ignoring the fact that I looked different. "The Different One" brilliantly captures being equally different.
