It binds your teeth together.
Not one, but two rows
Suspend their movement.

While leaning back in the chair,
Flashes of light and sounds of a drill
Increase anxiety.

Pain arrives at installments,
Along with limited foods
Restrictions kills.

Mostly adolescents.
Parent forced,
And sometimes accepted.

Years later, gratitude arrives
After two long years, or sometimes eight.
Still, the years come and go.

Custom made to fit your mouth,
It revolutionized the era of orthodontia.
Be grateful, young child,
for braces are your friends.

The author's comments:
I've had braces for two years and I am getting them off in less than a week. This poem is attributed to my experience.
