Have we ever thought of the voiceless creatures that roam within our society?

Have we ever wanted to help? It could be through being right up front with organizations, or the leader of your very own organization or like me a writer through which we can convey universal messages.

Infants are voiceless creatures they can be heard and cared for or left to their own devices and locked up. They depend on their caregiver and this is when most infants are left to die.

Elders in Asia have are naturally taken care of by the people of their family, however most of the times, in the West we have people leaving them or sending them to an old age home and they cannot protest or question this appalling behavior. As Shakespeare says that old age,” is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.”

The plant kingdom, the one that gives us life, cannot communicate. Though when they do it is not harmful towards us human beings. The way a creeper climbs and climbs till it receives support provided by us. Or how in the morning the Flowers wake up and at night shut down awaiting the next day. I say this because the plant kingdom gives us life and we in return most of the time kill it. As most of us don’t care for the very thing that lets us live and grow old.

The Animal Kingdom, the very one that houses all the mystical creatures present all over the world, the one that is known to give characteristic to our otherwise dull and drab world. If we talk about how we as human beings treat them, it could come as quite a shock. The Bengal Tiger in India known to mankind as the most beautiful and regal creature is hunted down for its skin. The Tiger that has been portrayed, yes as deadly but also as a loving creature who deserves to be a part of this world just as much as we do. The Cheetah for example, in the movie DUMA(2005) is shown as loyal, loving and protective. We as people need to understand much more than what these creatures are up front. They just like feel pain and loss.

My favourite animal, however, are DOGS. I have an other-worldly connection with them, and have felt it since I was introduced to them. It is because of them that I feel passion for animals. This bundle of joy has brought love, ever-lasting friendship and loyalty into a household.

In this article I give DOGS a voice because they have been my best friends. Loving, Understanding, the best companions one can have and it is I feel my obligation to help them.

I come from a home that has always given back largely to society and I wish and want to be a part of that. I am currently working for an organization which takes care of animals, through which I have learnt one very important lesson that dogs don’t have the power to communicate or state what they need but when they do communicate they do it with so much love and gentleness. I am writing this article because of my deep and abiding love for these gentle and lovely creatures. They need a voice just like human beings need companionship. An organization called VOICELESS- aims at improving the lives of animals at farms. Their vision just like mine and those of you who love animals is to see a world in which animals are treated with respect and compassion.

My aim is to raise awareness of the abuse dogs go through, particularly street dogs in India. I have first hand seen how badly dogs are treated and have wept on numerous occasions. Dogs are meant to be for loving and caring. My own Rottweiler “Lizzie” was cuddled and loved as a baby and today she is one of the most loving dogs I have ever had. She is still protective and wary of strangers but that is her instinct, it is who she is. She in lay- man’s terms is a “beast” but a beast that has been loved and molded into a wonderful and loving creature. If now someone does not understand it, we humans take advantage and beat the dog. However, for the dog that protective instinct runs so deep that nothing in the world could stop her from loving, and protecting you. At the end of the day he is a man’s best friend, that dog gives so much love whereas most of the time that dog himself/herself is thrown out of the house because WE get tired of that love and constant caring that we as people who possess the power of reason, thought and articulation cannot return that same love and loyalty. We have made progress as far as sympathy goes for dogs, June 18th , 2015, the 600 year-old Yulin Dog Meat Festival was called off after widespread online protests. As per the tradition, thousands of dogs are slaughtered in Eastern China and consumed during Autumn. This tradition when called off was supported by many Chinese households who had started adopting dogs and therefore the custom received a thumbs down from the locals. Widely regarded as ‘Man’s best friend’, dogs are unanimously the most favorite pets across the world.

It is our job to be the voice for creatures who cannot speak up for themselves. As a nation we need to make it our priority to come together and ensure the safety of our beloved pets. Always remember,” An animals eyes have the power to speak great language.”-Martin Buber.
