"Trapped in Society" is a powerful story relating to conformity and self-image. “She is seven years old, staring down at her stomach.” A seven-year-old, a person that barely understands the alphabet, looks down at themselves and shames themselves because that’s just the world we live in. I completely support Autumn Antonson’s eye-opening, driven piece about a serious social issue of insecurity and self-image.

In today’s world, girls are viewed differently because of how they look and dress. I, too, can relate as I lack self-confidence and am self-conscious. Girls, I’ve seen, have starved themselves to lose one pound which in reality, doesn’t matter. However, to them, one pound determines whether they’re viewed as “skinny” or “fat”. “Trapped in Society” sends out a self-provoking message and beautifully conveys the realism of today’s society.
