Essay Contest – Teens Making a Difference!


No matter your age or what your life consists of, you can always make a difference. Teen Ink knows this, and so does Natalie Silverstein, MPH – author of Simple Acts: The Busy Teen's Guide to Making a Difference!" For this contest, we want to know what simple (or not so simple) acts you've done to make a difference!

Simple Acts is a guide that shows teens how they can make a difference – providing tips, activities, and resources to inspire you to add acts of kindness and service into your everyday lives. You can learn more about Simple Acts and Natalie Silverstein, by clicking here!

In 250-350 words, Teen Ink wants you to share your stories of when you've made a difference. Winners and honorable mentions will be published in Teen Ink magazine. The overall winner will receive a copy of Natalie Silverstein's book, Simple Acts: The Busy Teen's Guide to Making a Difference, and a $25 Amazon gift card!

Rules:

  • You must be a teen (aged 13-19) with a Teen Ink account to enter

  • No inappropriate content

  • Submissions must relate to the topic (Teens Making a Difference)

  • Essays must be between 250-350 words

Guidelines and Details: 

  • Word Count: 250 - 350 words

  • There's no size limit to an act of kindness – it doesn't matter how big or small your act of kindness is, we want to hear about it!

  • There is no limit to the number of pieces you can submit

  • Submit your piece as NONFICTION and PERSONAL EXPERIENCE – When submitting your contest entry, select "Nonfiction" as the genre and "Personal Experience" as the subgenre

How to Submit: 

  • Submit entries through our website. All entries submitted to Teen Ink are automatically considered for the contest. See our submission guidelines for more information.

  • Must include the words "Essay Contest" in your submission's tags and title

  • Contest entry should be submitted as "Nonfiction" as the genre, and "Personal Experience" as the subgenre

Prizes: 

  • Winner and honorable mentions will have their essays published in Teen Ink magazine
