“Perhaps I write for no one. Perhaps for the same person children are writing for when they scrawl their names in the snow.” - Margaret Atwood

Shall I bid thee farewell on this winter’s night,
As thy smile pray sweet that I stay?
‘Tis true, love is blind yet mine eyes do see light,
Plaguing night with first signs of day.

Mine heart fills with sorrow, words pierce my soul,
By my troth, my dearest, I say to thee,
Mine heart she shall stay, whilst my body doth go,
For without you mine heart shall not beat.

A father’s harsh words, truth sharpened, strike deep,
Burning heart, mind, and soul with this pain,
I vouchsafe sweet nothings that I do speak,
Ring sweet in thine ears, never again.

Our last night doth end with my bitter farewell,
Lov’d I not wisely but perchance too well.
