At Once
There was silence
All at once,
Except for the woosh
Of blood in my ears,
Except for the cheers and jeers and screams and tears
Of the dead.
But only I could hear.
And I realized.
It wasn’t blood. It was
Fear, that was dripping
Down my neck like tears.
On the wall, on my hands,
All over this land.
On the trees, in the sky,
Skeletons smiling, saying hi.
Except I don’t want to hear
Them. I just want to go back
To the precious,precious moment.
When all I knew was
Silence.
