My Mama
  Like a soldier
  she's strong and proud
  Her life rich
  with wisdom and memories
  When she sings
  her voice lifts
  thick with years of age
  Even without her life's partner
  by her side,
she continues on like her grandfather
clock ticking day in, day out
  tick tock
time passes by in the blink of an eye
  or at times
like a stroll in the park
  yet she smiles
  basking in the glowing sun
of her life spread behind her
  with the tinkling music
  of her grandchildren's laughter
  as the melodies envelope her.

I wrote this poem as a gift to my grandmother on her 80th birthday. She is someone I love and admire immensly, and whom I strive and hope to emulate.
