There’s nothing
that separates me
between reality
and my dreams
except sleeping eyes.

But governmental control
suffocates these dreams
and this reality.

So rebel, rebel, rebel
against the system
that destroys
these things for me.

Fill the gas can
and empty it over me,
light a match and set me free
to my dreams,
away from this empty reality.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece shortly after the attempted assassination of former congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords around January of 2011. And I was watching the news which reported that the killer had many bizarre views about the government and its interference within his life, so I wrote this poem given the outlandish views of this man.
