This Thing Called Love

July 20, 2011
What is this thing called love?
Breaking hearts but filled with joy
Seeing it played out before you
Is this bliss over some silly boy?
Little girl, oh how they dream
Prince Charming and swept off feet
But to their dismay, there’s no white steed
And Charming tackles on the football team.
Growing older, wiser, more afraid
Never opening up to love so hard
Keeping the beloved at arm’s length
Afraid of burnt remains, so black and charred.
Looking past the emotions, logically
Hearts will break, tears will flow
But after a while in he walks
He brings with him a love that shows.
You’re scared, terrified, and afraid
What if you end up so broken like before?
He sees this fear and takes great care
To show you that real love is in store.
Days fly by, turned weeks, turned months
Finally your mind lets go
The love you feel must be proof
Oh, you sigh, I love him so!
Dreams come true, Prince Charming’s here
And he swept you off your feet somehow
Not with white steed and cape and boots
But with the qualities you love right now.
Now you see, love ever after exists
And someone out there waits for you
They long and love until the day
The love you find is evermore true.
