Coffee Shop Goodbyes
I don’t quite meet your eyes.
You don’t meet mine.
The first part of this meeting was easy;
we stood in line and ordered our smoothies,
making silly little comments about how good they tasted.
Then, of course, we apologized all over again.
And waited….
My knuckles turn white as I grip my cup.
Searching for anything at all to say….
Nothing.
It’s been too long.
Broken hearts,
Sleepless nights,
Too many hard feelings to forgive.
I’ve scratched out too many writings of “best friend forever” to go back now
Torn it right out of my heart
So, goodbye best friend….
I’ll see you in my dreams tonight
And in the morning, I’ll try to forget
And move on.
