Taking a Closer Look
I close my eyes and open my heart
I hear joy and laughter bubbling with life
I feel the smiles of children within reach
I see the innocence that fills their hearts
I tighten my eyes and challenge my heart
I hear the hurt that hides beneath their laughs
I feel the streaks of tears that break their smiles
I see the struggles that burden their hearts
I tremble with sadness as my vision clears
I listen to the pain of their breaking hearts
I touch the scars hiding beneath the smiles
I look into their eyes and find no hope
In that instant I can change a child's world.
In that moment of time I can bring hope.
