Go amiably amid the work and haste,
And remember what joy there will be in the meeting of that final deadline.
As far as possible, there's no option for surrender.
Be on good terms with all your fellow writers, artists and musicians,
Speak your mind peaceably but clearly;
And listen to others
Even the new and inexperienced,
They too have their own take on the story.

Avoid overused or generalized styles
They are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare your work to the work of others,
You may become vain or feel hopelessness,
For there will always be a studio greater or lesser than your own.

Keep interest and passion in the career,
However humble your part may be.
It's a treasure, a reason for pride
In a time when the life in the trade seems to be fading.
Exercise caution in your copyright affairs,
For the world is full plagerists,
But let this not blind you to the magic there is,
Which so many people strive to become a part of.
Remember that we must never lose sight of one thing:
That it all started with a mouse.

Meld with the characters---they are a part of you now,
Especially, do not order them about.
They are not puppets.
Be not cynical when they slip from your grasp,
For in all truth and reality,
They are as hard to capture as the wind itself.

Take kindly to the counsel of your elders,
Gracefully surrendering to their knowledge and wisdom.
Nuture the strength of the spirit they pass onto you, to shield you in times of self-doubt.
Do not deny yourself the endless imaginings,
For many masterpieces are born of what if's and whys.
Beyond a productive discipline,
Be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the arts,
No less than the pots and the paints;
You have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
No doubt the plot is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with the Creator,
Whatever you concieve Him to be,
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
In the cheerful confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its twists and turns,
It is still a beautiful world.
Breathe life into it.
Create new worlds.
Bring joy to everyone.

The author's comments:
Yet another product of a creative writing assignment. We were studying the original famed "Desiderata" by Max Ehrman: a poem intended to give lifelong advice to its readers. We were told to pick a topic and create our own version of the poem, following its original pattern but adding our own ideals. Animation is my chosen career for the future and has always been a topic dear to my heart, so for that reason alone I chose to create " The Animator's Desiderata".
