That Melody
Don't ask me why I do it,
because you might not like the answer;
or rather, perhaps, you might not like
the truth.
And it's not to say I didn't try and fail,
or whether I put myself there and just couldn't,
but it's all I know and they tell me to stick to
my guns.
I thought it might be nice to sing your name in a song,
because what's a name like that without a verse
to be in.
And so nobody had ever written a song about you before;
(not for you but) about you.
But I can't write it because you can't write what has already
been written.
But oh, mercy, what I'd give to write that melody.
