Dark to Light

October 6, 2008
By Gracie Cier, Park City, UT

So hard to speak, let alone breath,
I’m here alone, all by myself,
Fire burning in my lungs, rising further up my throat,
I’m sinking down, into a pit of doom.

My pain is horrid, just getting worse,
My breathing so hard, it is hurting my ears,
I can’t understand what my brain is trying to tell me,
To let go? To just give up? That would feel nice at a time like this.

I’m floating on a cloud, so light and colorful,
Nothing dreary in sight, there is no dark,
No more fire in my throat, no more burning down my neck,
I’m alive, or am I? Am I in heaven? I’m in heaven.
