Infant of the Ocean

we stood at shore
our dark hair settling
from the zephyr that had passed
and he swept away
the sand-encrusted strand
from my forehead and warned
me to not go too far
as I plunged
into the unknown
further and further
and I could feel the grasp
of his strong fingers
barely hanging on
as I was dragged in
and he let me go
into the illuminating sea
