I Am

I am a book
I wonder who is willing to read me
I hear people turning the pages of other books, why won't they read me?
I see other books being read
I want to be read cover to cover
I am a book

I pretend that I don't mind when others don't read me
I feel no one knows who I am and who I can be
I touch a bookshelf where the books are never fully finished
I worry that soon I will be the only book on that shelf
I cry when someone puts me back on that shelf
I am a book

I understand that my cover is not appealing to the eyes
I say you cannot judge a book by its cover, its what is on the inside that counts
I dream of being read cover to cover
I try to persuade others to read me, why won't they
I hope to be off that shelf before I am fifty.
I am a book

I love this poem. It is well written and its so deep for a teenager. I wish her all the best, and keep up the good work.
