“Well hello there,” she said quietly to the crying sparrow.
The bird looked up and let out a tiny gasp, tinged with disdain and fright, and suddenly, it was gone.
She stood over the remaining pile of feathers it had left behind and held one of them up to the moon.
“I hope you’re happy, wherever you are now.”
