"They'd always said I had a chance." I whispered.
"You do."
"Brys?"
"Yes?"
"Is it the right one..?"
"Maybe."
"Brys?"
"Yes, Em?"
"Why?"
"I love you, Em, that's why."

He smiled at me, it was the same kind smile it's always been. Kindergarten up until now, Sophomore year. Oh, Bryson. How could I do this to him?
He look at me now, his eyes were blank.
I'd never seen them this way, so clear and certain. He was getting what he wanted, in the end, I suppose.

"Emma?"
"Yes, Bryson?"
"Will you marry me...?"
"Sure, what the hell."
He smiled again, he was truly happy with how this worked.
"Emma?"
"Yeah?"
"Why."
"You know why, Bryson. Now enough questions, let's get it over with."

He nodded, he knew the plan as well as I did, but the only thought on my mind was How had I dragged him into this? This happy sixteen year old boy, how could I? It wasn't my choice though, he had said yes.
"Cheers, for love, Brys." I said, lifting my laden hand to his temple.
He smiled, bringing his to my own.
Slowly, he leaned over and kissed away my tears. "Are you sure?" he whispered.
I nodded.
He closed his eyes, which is when I saw him shaking.
"I'm sorry, Em."
"Yeah, me too Brys, me too."
Then, nothing.

This isn't my best, but something about it always keeps me wanting to come back and reread it.
