“The City of Ember” follows the lives of teenagers Lina Mayfleet, and Doon Harrow. The two live in an underground city that was named the city of ember. The vastly large city was built 200 years ago when a war raged on the surface of the earth. However, the generator that keeps the city and the lights alive is failing, and Lina and Doon begin to discover all of the clues left by the builders on how to escape their doomed city. The two ordinary kids become the key to the survival of the citizens of the city of ember. Anyone that does not make it out will perish in the endless pitch black.

The City of Ember is a very exciting sci-fi/mystery novel written by Jeanne Duprau. The book is very well written and made me think about what it would be like being cut off from the real world. It was very gripping reading every page of the book, and had a very good description of the mood and feel of the city. I would very much recommend this book to anyone aged 11-13.
