In Darkness before Dawn by Sharon M. Draper, there is a young lady named Keisha Montgomery, who thought that everything would be better after the funeral of her ex-boyfriend, Andy. In Darkness before Dawn, Keisha discovers something over the phone with her best friend, Rhonda – that her ex-boyfriend was suicidal. Keisha cries and cries, scared that all of the people she cared about were going to disappear like Andy. While she takes care of Andy’s younger brother Monty, she meets her new twenty-three year old track coach, Johnathon Hathaway, the principal’s son. Would Keisha be able to fall back in love with the tall handsome coach? I really enjoyed this novel because the book demonstrates to me how unfortunate people’s lives can really be. Luckily, Keisha was a strong woman who fought for her rights and dignity. I recommend this book to any reader who loves suspense because this novel will keep up on the edge of your seat. Just like the title, Darkness before Dawn, the darkness devours the light; Keisha’s dark past gets demolished by her bright future.
