Emma Montgomery and I share the same views on the standards of females, as shown in her article “Double Standards.” Emma writes about how females are “supposed” to be—aka cute, quiet, unassuming, shy, etc. She mentions how they’re “supposed to be the sidekick or the love interest but not the protagonist, and if they are (shock, horror), they don’t get to do anything heroic.”

Personally, I agree with this. It is shown in the media many times. Every female character seems to need saving, or if she doesn’t, it’s because she’s the antagonist. Women are there to be “seen, not heard”—at least, that’s what it seems like to me. Emma argues that females are like this in real life whenever they’re around males, and gives a simple solution: create strong, proactive, and even flawed female protagonists.
