In the November 2013 issue of Teen Ink, Danah Atassi blew me away with their description of how it feels to move from Syria to the U.S. in his article “Syrian Values.” I understand why the student feels he should act a certain way in the U.S. In the article he writes that in Syria people could not and did not want to stand out. Atassi compares it to the United States by writing that here, in the U.S., many people ant to help others and stand out. With the civil war in Syria, it is easy to see why he would feel this way. The regime of Syria paid close attention to citizens, and Syrians would not want to catch the attention of their government and risk being tortured.
