Haven

Anticipation crawls throughout my spine.
Long awaited cheer bursts through the air.
The rising sun shines over my cloud nine,
A glimpse of true bliss waiting for me there.

Descending into perfect fields of green,
Welcomed by laughter and smiling faces.
No worry or regret is to be seen.
My soul dances in the best of places.

The days slip by at supersonic speed
Forcing out the ugly word: “Goodbye.”
We try to hold our grip ‘till fingers bleed
But can’t restrain the ticking hands of time.

Miles and miles may keep us apart,
But distance means nothing in our hearts.

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by my favorite place in the world: camp. I wanted to capture the pure happiness caused by being at camp with my best friends, and the sudden shock that comes when the summer ends in six short weeks. No matter where I am, I will always have a part of camp with me because it has been a huge influence on the person I am today.
