Wintergirl

January 30, 2012
By Anonymous

i feel winter’s cold sting
in the middle of summer
hushed like a ballad to sing.

the days so slow
as life’s funny ways move
coming to rest but not grow.

always slipping me by
but some things never change,
and i promise you i can’t explain why.

in this earth of mass
full of people leaving me
and the time will pass

but i stay the same.
and i swear i don’t mind
in nature and my body’s cruel game.

in this world, in my share
of space divided with all else,
i take more than what is fair.

It is. The title is from the book Wintergirls, which is about anorexia. The poem itself is my own feelings from my own experiences. Thank you for the feedback!

"and I promise you I cant explain why" fits the poem. I was thinking this is really a puzzle while reading it then I come upon that line.
