Go ahead and sleep before the sunlight comes along,
Go ahead and doze and dream of slow and lulling songs.
Close your eyes and mind and fall into the restless night,
Catch a wink before you're snatched into life's blinding light.

The mirage of breaking day will force your eyes to open wide,
Promised hopes that will make you want to dance outside.
Stay here as long as you can before the start of day,
Stay and remain dormant and I'll keep the ghosts away.

A little longer here and you'll be glad when day is born,
Don't be the early bird who catches the too young worm.
Listen to nature's serenade and slumber on, young one,
Remember the deepest hour comes just before the dawn.

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired by my little sister, who's always trying to grow up too fast and can't rest long enough to wait for the dawn. "Slumber on, young one."
