Tied Within
Today I saw a ribbon
 tied to a tree.
And then a bird fluttered by
 and winked straight at me.
 'How peculiar,' I thought
 as he whizzed right past.
 But then into the tree
 the poor little bird crashed.
If he was broken or alive,
 my eyes could not see.
So I began to walk to him,
only to be stung by a bee.
 'How awful,' I thought
 as the critter buzzed away.
 But then it fell dead
and on the ground it stayed.
 So i roamed further on
to where the bird may be.
 But when I got closer
the little creature just stared at me.
 'How sad,' I thought
 as the bird lay still.
Just then it blinked and flew away
 as if it wasn't real.
So with a sigh I sat
and noticed a butterfly on my knee.
Then it danced around my head
feeling so purple and so free.
 'How beautiful,' I thought
as it disappeared in the sky.
 Then suddenly things became clear
as the ribbon caught my eye.
 It dangled in the wind
unhappy to be caught in the tree.
 Only then did I realize
 that the ribbon was me.
