My Everyday Poison

Everyday I gaze intently into my mirror,
As if it's a crystal ball,
And today's work will reveal my future,
Successes or failures

I whip out my eyeshadow and fix,
Colors upon my eyes,
As dark as the goddess Nyx,
So that I can live a lie

My lashes morph into spiders' legs, with every stroke I make
But, I tell myself that they look like eagles' wings,
Because I use every fib to cover up my mistakes,
In order to live in this superficial world of queens and kings

And with every blemish I conceal with cream,
And every powder I take from my shelf,
I think that I'm getting closer to my model dream,
Even though I'm just concealing myself

Oh crystal ball I ask,
"Please tell me I look okay"
I look intently at my mask,
As I ask that question everyday

And when all the damage has been done,
I know, deep inside, that I'm not fooling anyone
