Green-Eyed Monster

A childhood story you were told at night
Of a green-eyed being gone ballistic.
He makes you desire for things with spite,
He devises thoughts that are sadistic.
Beady eyes glare hungrily, jealously,
watching, waiting, wanting, hurting inside.
All the nightmares hidden protectively
rush free from their safety where they reside.
The monster under your bed has run free
at last, it is too late to hold him back .
How he wreaks mayhem, but no one can see,
strikes without warning, like an offhand smack.
I will have varied feelings no longer,
Because of him, I am that much stronger.
