They placed me beside you in the hospital bed
Your eyes were weary, but lips were widespread.
I complained and I cried, I kept you awake,
But my absence brought on a greater ache.

When I first went to school, you gave me a kiss,
I was embarrassed, but you were in bliss.
You remember that time I let go of your hand,
Your feeling of fear I don’t yet understand.

You say I’m your joy, your reason to live,
I’m sorry, but I don’t know what to give.
You tell me you want just a few sincere words,
I attempted to speak but my thoughts went unheard.

Then reading a story beside one another,
I leaned in and whispered, “I love you mother.”

Favorite Quote:
"Don't punish yourself," she heard her say again, but there would be punishment and pain, and there would be happiness too. That was writing."
--Markus Zusak, "The Book Thief"

I never expected the ending of this one. It is so touching!
