Twelve years ago
We couldn't comprehend
What love was firsthand
But kids change and grow

At 10 I left you behind
You wondered why
I never said good bye
But I didn't leave your mind

At 18 I found you again
And this I swear
You became my prayer
And my sweet amen

We're so close
I hear your heart beat
I feel your body heat
Scaring away our ghosts

My lungs fill with smoke
As you puff your cigarette
But we didn't regret
Once we awoke

I grab your hand
You kiss my head
Our cheeks flush red
Cause now we know love firsthand

The author's comments:
I wrote this for my boyfriend awhile ago. He had lived two houses down from me during our childhood, so we literally grew up together. Then when I was 10, my family and I moved to Florida... He was out of town visiting his mom so I never got to say goodbye.
Eight years later I found him on Facebook and we hit it off.
I cherish everyday I'm with him.
