"Stay strong."

Shifting through the presents
Journals, candy, new CD
The earth is purgatory
My whole life lies before me
The water churning
My heart is yearning
My soul is burning
My mind's a requiem

Everything is moving so fast
No way to make it last

Sweet sixteen
I'm a yearbook queen
Looking at old pictures and
The times when I took a stand
Sweet sixteen
Build a time machine
To remember who I was
Because I don't know who I'll be

Young and tightly bound
By my weaknesses and fears
I'm judged by all my peers
Could it all disappear?
The road is calling
In love I'm falling
And I'm not stalling
My mind's a non-stop train

Everything is moving so slow
I'm ready to go

Sweet sixteen
I'm a daydream queen
Dreaming of the future and
Thinking of jobs, making plans
Sweet sixteen
Build a time machine
To find out who I'll be
Question: will I still be me?

I'm not yet independent
But I am not repentant
About anything that I have done
'Cause it's all over and done
As I open my presents
Can I stay in the present?
Till they make a time machine

Everything is staying so still
God, what is Your will?

Sweet sixteen
I'm a mirror queen
Gazing all around me and
I am sixteen! I am sixteen!
Sweet sixteen
There's no time machine
I'll watch the time pass by
Every moment's a goodbye

I wrote this on my 16th birthday, when I realized how much I wanted the past, the present, and the future, but in different ways.

I could really see the rythm in these lyrics :) The last line was my favorite.
